Spring has sprung
2026 Class Requests
The year is hurtling towards Term 4 and the time when we begin looking at our class configurations and student placements.
If you have a particular request for your child’s placement for next year, please email Acting Principal Steve Jeffrey (Term 3) and Jo Waldon (from end of Term 3 onwards) by Wednesday 22nd October. We consider every request and do our best to accommodate, but do not guarantee that we can do so.
If you are planning on moving your child to another school in 2026, please let us know by the same date (22 October) as this information is vital in the configuration of classes.

Year 5 Play – The Wizard of Oz in Thirty Minutes
This year’s Year 5 students have worked tirelessly in preparation for their big night. This past Monday, they put on two performanes – one during school time for all students and staff, and then again at 6pm for their families.
Looking wonderful in their costumes, the actors performed their lines beautifully and should be proud not only of the final performance, but also the journey they went on as they prepared. A huge thank you goes to Ms Sharni Adderton for all she does to support and empower the students to perform.

Communication to Families – School Satisfaction Survey 2025 – Thank you
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Families School Satisfaction Survey 2025. Your feedback is very important to help us improve our school and practice.
The survey is now closed, and schools will receive summaries of the results in Term 4. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to anyone.
Kinder Teddy Clinic
This term, Kinder have been learning about our bodies and how to keep them healthy. Last week, our Kinder students brought their teddies to school so they could be part of the Teddy Clinic. The teddies were x-rayed, vaccinated, had their hearts, blood pressure and eyesight checked and their arms plastered.
Thank you to the medical volunteers who gave their time for the health of our teddies.

Wear Your Team Colours Day
What a wonderful way to end the term! Students and staff dressed up in their favourite sports team colours or wore sports clothes or active wear.
While not a fundraising activity, a day like this lifts the profile of the benefits of being active and involved in some form of sport or physical activity.
Thanks to the School Association for supporting the day by providing a free sausage or vege-burger to every student!

Chess news
Congratulations to our chess team who recently competed at this year’s third inter-primary chess competition at South Hobart Primary School. As a result of their performance, they have been invited to the state finals, to be held in Launceston early next term.
Well done to Jikei, Aiden, Matthew, Ben and Theo, and also to Olivia for her earlier performances. A huge thank you to Nthabiseng for supervising the students on the day.
Evidences of Learning
Thanks to the teaching and support staff for all their work in preparing and assessing Evidences of Learning, most of which have now gone home. We hope this assists parents in both understanding the tasks that teachers use in class to teach and assess, as well as providing indicators of where students currently are in their learning.
Parent Tip –

Have an enjoyable and safe holiday.
School returns on Monday 13th October
It is also our Y3-6 Swimming Carnival –
so don’t forget bathers and towels!

Grade Prep
Last week, Prep/1 Platypus and Prep Puggles went on an excursion to the Sustainability Centre.
This was part of our science Inquiry of ‘materials and their properties’.
During our time we split into two groups, the first group made instruments out of recycled materials, while the second group had way too much fun playing in the bush, building forts and pirate ships. The students used logs and sticks and worked together to problem solve and create wonderful play areas. We also built a dam across the creek and got a little bit dirty making mud pies.

Grade 5/6DJ
5/6DJ has been exploring character traits through narrative writing. Students were challenged to change the personality of one character from the classic tale The Three Little Pigs. As you’ll see, altering a character’s traits can completely transform the story. We hope you enjoy reading some of their imaginative twists.

Nut Allergy – Reminder
We have several students in our school who are allergic to nuts and nut products. It is a Department of Education requirement that all medications to be taken by students during the school day are to be passed into the office or teacher in charge of an excursion or camp. The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Medical Action Plans
Every child at Albuera Street Primary with a medical condition needs to supply an updated medical plan to the school each year, especially those with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Staff from Albuera have been trained in Anaphylaxis using EpiPens and also in Ventolin administration for Asthma. If you are new to the school and your child has a medical condition please come into the office and collect an appropriate action plan form, or if you just have questions please don’t hesitate to phone the school.
